Articles about Books and Reading
Audio Books for Children - Finding audio books for kids is a little bit
easier than you might have imagined. Although not every classic kid's book is
also available as an audio book for children, many of the best ones are. You can
find audio books for children on every subject, and targeted towards every age
group. You can find short stories books, nonfiction books, and chapter books all
available for little or no money. There are even audio books for download on the
Internet, In case you do not live near to an audio book store.
Animal
Books - There is something fascinating about
animals. We all love them (well, most of us), but children seem to be
especially enamored with fuzzy, little faces. Perhaps they like them
because so many of them are the same size as they are, and perhaps
because animals are so interestingly different. I really
can’t explain it, but I do know that the fascination is real.
For the longest time my daughter’s favorite Usborne books
have been ones that have featured animals and stories about them.
Animal books were all she wanted to read for a long time, and they are
still her favorite.
Encyclopedia for Kids
- There are a few basic characteristics that make an encyclopedia truly
easy for kids to use. They should be simple to read, but at the same
time, contain the basic important information that kids need to learn
about that given subject. The terms should be child-friendly, and the
concepts should be easy to grasp. A good encyclopedia for kids will
also contain numerous, vivid illustrations. These help children
understand what they are reading, or what is being read to them.
Best Seller Books
- Whether you're a avid or casual reader, have you ever wondered just
what is meant when you see a certain book on a “best
seller” list? Does that mean it sold over one million copies?
How does a book become a best seller? You might be surprised to know
that there's no set number of copies or standard formula which defines
any one “best seller books” list. All the well
known lists use different criterion to determine which are best seller
books and which are not.
Buying Books Online
- One item that almost everyone has bought online is a book. With
overnight shipping and the reduced prices, buying books online just
makes great sense. If you have a particular book in mind, you can save
yourself both time and money by forgoing a trip to the bookstore and
buying from the comfort of home.
Early Childhood Activity
- Keeping a toddler busy can feel like a full-time job. Children who
are two or three-years-old can attend a pre-school program but when
they are at home, they’ll be searching for things to do.
Parents may find that having an early childhood activity list on hand
can help them when they are looking for things to do with their little
one.
Non Fiction Books
- Most of my friends read novels for fun, but few of them really spend
a lot of time reading non fiction books. Of course, I read a non
fiction book whenever I get the chance, but I am definitely an
exception to the rule. It seems like when people aren't taking
classess, nonfiction books fall out of favor very quickly. Although I
know quite a few people who will read new non fiction books for
financial reasons (such as to learn a new career skill), few of them
will read them just for the simple joy of learning new things. It is
almost as if non fictional books are viewed as less interesting than
novels. In my opinion, people should take a closer look. Book Non
fiction can be absolutely fascinating.
Raising
a Reader - Child Reading begins at home. As a parent you are
the first and most important link on the road to reading. Enjoy stories
with your child from a very early age. Even newborns can sense your
enthusiasm when you read to them. Try to set aside a special time each
and every day that you and your child can enjoy a number of books
together without interruption. Your child will signal you when he or
she begins to tire of this activity. Let this be your clue that story
time has ended. It is probably best to let your child dictate the
length of time spent reading and you will find that as the activity
becomes standard, your child will sit and listen for longer periods of
time.
Let's Read! The Benefits of
Reading to Your Children - Parents, when you
help your children learn to read, you help them open the door to a big,
exciting world. As a parent, you can begin an endless learning chain
like this: You read to your children, they develop a love of stories
and poems, they want to read on their own, they practice reading, and
finally, they read for their own information or pleasure. When children
become readers, their world is forever wider and richer.
Confessions of a Lover of Books
and Learning - My father read to me and my
sister every night, without fail. The books he chose even my mother had
to object to at times Black Arrow, and The Three Musketeers, for
instance, but it really didn’t matter to me. I loved hearing
my father’s voice, and I picked up his obvious love of
literature. He approached each reading session with enthusiasm, more in
the nonverbals than in anything he said, but certainly I could tell it
was something he really looked forward to.
Starting Your Own Children's Book
Club - Today's teens and pre-teens read very
little, according to many recent studies. Harry Potter aside, how can
you get your child interested in reading for future success? How can
you take on the responsibility of creating a reading course for your
child? One exciting approach is to start your own book club.
Choosing
Picture Books for Your Child - Consider buying
picture books which focus on subjects your child is interested in. A
truck loving boy may not enjoy a book full of pretty fairy pictures.
remember, however, to try to expose your child to different subjects -
while your truck lover may not come round to fairies, you may be able
to interest him/her in dinosaurs.
Improve Kids' Reading Skills -
Even Without Books - Parents want their children
to be strong readers skills. They see reading ability as the ticket to
a good college and a successful life. The first problem, however, may
be getting children to read at all.
